Winter Wonderland, Winter Stories, 2009 ISU Reading Project’s Three Cups of Tea, The ISU Financial Wellness Center, the Library of Congress Classification System, Multicultural Literature, and Research at IHSL are the new or continuing subjects of displays up in the library now. Dustin Landon has his photography exhibited in the Current Display Art Area.
Display case 1: Winter Wonderland. This decorative display of snowmen, snowflakes, snow covered trees, animals, and flowers, are all on a blanket of snow, highlighted with clear lights. Children of all ages will enjoy this display and the festive aquarium nearby.
Display Case 3 has a display on Winter Stories. Children’s books in this case include: The First Igloo, Too Many Mittens, It’s Winter, Snow, Winters Tale, White Snow Right Snow, and more. Check the library for winter and Christmas stories and songs of all kinds, or just for a good book to curl up with on a cold winter evening.
The 2009 ISU Reading Project is the topic of display case 2. This display discusses “Three Cups of Tea, has a list of the events, includes other information and pictures. Check out the Reading Project home page for online information. This display case has been moved closer to the new book area near the reference desk for easier viewing.
The nearby Current Display Art Area has photography by Dustin Landon. Dustin Landon has only been involved with photography for two years now, but he’s already won several awards for his photography at the Eastern Idaho State fair and the Photographics Society at BYU-Idaho. His work has also been on display at the Pocatello Art Walk. To Landon, “Pictures are more than capturing a moment; they’re more than the face in the frame. They seem to capture something else, something that will keep you staring.” Capturing that “something else” for Landon is the pinnacle of photography, even if it means changing angles and perspectives to “find what most eyes don’t see.” find out more on his web page: www.Landon-Studios.com.
Display Case 4 has information about the “ISU Financial Wellness Center”. It covers determining whether you are financially fit or in financial danger. You can learn more about personal finance and find out ways to save money and surviving on a student budget. Most of all, find out more about the ISU Financial Wellness Center and preview the new “Cash Course” link on their web page. This display has some good ideas that will help you spend less over the holidays.
The Library of Congress Classification System is the subject of display case 5. What are those numbers and letters on books? J includes political science, L= Education, D = History, R = Medicine, etc. Find out how the books are organized into 21 categories, and learn about the history of the Library of Congress system, developed by James Hanson.
Display case 6 is on Multicultural Literature. The display contains books from a multicultural America and about our the literatures of our diverse cultures. Examples include Multicultural Autobiography, Latino Literature in America, Writing America Black, Multicultural Detective Fiction, West of the Border, Against Borders, and more.
Health Science display case—Research at IHSL. The Idaho Health Science Library, located on the 3rd floor of the library, offers many research services, and encourage you to “check our online ‘stocking’ and see what we have for you. Some available online resources include Davis’s Drug Guide for Nurses, MD Consult, Psychiatric Secrets, Guide to Culturally Competent Health Care, and more.
