Library Closed Memorial Day Weekend

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

The Library will be closed Saturday through Monday, May 28-30, for the Memorial Day Weekend Holiday. Plan your library research for weekdays before or after the holiday weekend. Find our complete hours here.

You can still do extensive research from home with the library web page, unless there are power or computer outages. Over 200 electronic databases can be accessed off campus, with access to 112,590 electronic journals, books and reports. Call email, or come in to the reference desk when it is staffed if you have questions. Or look at some of the Library Tutorials, which may answer your questions.

If you need internet services that you usually get with the computers at Oboler library, you could try your local public library. Check with your local library for their open hours and internet policies. They are usually not open on Sunday or holidays.

We hope that you enjoy the holiday.

Library Staff Participate in Bike to Work Challenge

Friday, May 20th, 2011

Seventeen Oboler Library staff members (almost half of the staff) are representing the library in the Employee Challenge sponsored by Portneuf Valley Bike to Work. This program challenges workplaces to use alternative transportation to and from work during the month of May: bike, walk, car pool, telecommute, or ride the bus. Check out their web page for many more exciting events that will be happening, information on the benefits of alternative transportation, and more.

The first year that the program was offered, Oboler Library staff won first prize in the Employee Challenge, a new bicycle. Staff voted to donate the bicycle to the ISU Women’s Club Holiday Fair, where it was raffled and the proceeds used to provide scholarships for ISU students.

morgan 2“I have been creating art since I was a little kid. Drawing and painting allows me to express my feelings and emotions in a way that words never can. Painting is very therapeutic for me and I love it. When I paint the hustle and bustle of the real world is left behind. My interests in art today involve humanistic qualities, which include anything from organic, to emotional, to figurative. Artists like Georgia O’Keeffe and Henry Asencio are an inspiration to me because their work is natural and soothing. When I show my work, I hope that the viewer will feel a connection with the piece.”
