With ISU Homecoming in full swing this week, remember to add a visit to the Eli M. Oboler Library to see the Writing Out Loud, The Perry Swisher Manuscript Collection Exhibit. We’ve prepared 5 cases and 5 tables showcasing the work of this remarkable man: U of I, Southern Branch (1943) and ISU graduate (1968), publisher, journalist, ISU administrator, legislator (house and senate, republican and democrat), IPUC and NARUC commissioner, businessman, and civil rights activist.
Laura Gleason in her Idaho State Journal article published Sunday, Sept. 23, Looking at the life of a renouned Idahoan, summarized his life perfectly:
“Whether it was surviving polio, living through the Great Depression, or being a third generation Idahoan, something gave Swisher the courage to speak out loud. For over 60 years, both editorially and politically, he voiced his views on issues in Idaho and his voice made a difference. He participated and we are better for it.”
