Open Workshops–New Schedule!

Endnote Web, Copyright, Job Searching, Social Software, RSS Feeds, and more! The new schedule of Open Workshops @ The Library is now out. It includes topics in this article title, plus Research While You Sleep, Audiobooks, Finding Foreign Language Materials, and Social Software.

1. Endnote Web
Instructors: Marcia Francis – Director of the Idaho Health Sciences Library
When: Wednesday March 4th, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Where: Library room 212

Do you need help organizing your citations? EndNote Web software can be used freely by ISU students, staff, and faculty to organize and format citations for bibliographies and works-cited pages. It allows you to input citation information as well as import citations from many Library databases, including many of the EBSCOhost databases, PubMed, and Web of Science.

2. Research While You Sleep
Instructors: Jenny Lynne Semenza – Head of Reference Services
When: Wednesday March 11th, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Where: Library room 212

Involved in a large research project? Want to learn how busy people keep up with the information deluge? Then come to this workshop and learn how to pull the information you want right to your desktop. Includes information on RSS feeds and feed readers, the use of Ebsco databases to deliver tables of contents and search results to the feed reader.

3. Audiobooks at the Library
Instructors: Beth Downing – Government Documents Librarian
When: Wednesday March 18th, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Where: Library room 212

Come learn how to access the new Audiobook collection. These audiobooks can be downloaded to your computer or mp3 player (not IPod compatible).

4. Finding Foreign Language Materials in the Library
Instructors: Jenny Lynne Semenza – Head of Reference Services
Spencer Jardine – Coordinator of Instruction
When: Wednesday April 1st, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Where: Library room 212

The library has access to many foreign language materials. Come find out about them at this workshop.

5. Copyright
Instructors: Kay Flowers – Dean of Oboler Library
When: Wednesday April 8th, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Where: Library room 212

Ever wondered if you can legally use someone else’s work? Kay will talk about some of the ins and outs of this complex question, so you can make more informed decisions about when and how much you can use without infringing on someone’s copyright.

6. Job Searching
Instructors: Spencer Jardine – Coordinator of Instruction
Troy Kase – Career Center Director
When: Wednesday April 15th, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Where: Library room 212

Spencer will discuss resources you may access to find out about specific careers, including salaries, positions available, future outlook of the profession, education needed, etc. Troy will provide tips on job-searching skills such as writing resumes, finding internships, and developing interview skills.

7. Social Software 10 types of applications in 60 minutes
Instructors: Jenny Lynne Semenza – Head of Reference Services
When: Wednesday April 29th, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Where: Library room 212

This workshop is an overview of the many types of social software applications available and how they could be used by you socially and/or professionally. Includes information on bookmarking, wikis, social networking sites, document sharing and more…
