Financial Wellness

This is exactly what we need in these rough financial times! I saw an interesting item on the ISU News/ Headlines pagea few days ago. ISU has a Financial Wellness Center now. It will offer resources for students seeking financial advice. They also have some classes and presentations ISU staff can attend, and an “under construction” web page which already has some interesting information and links, and will have more later. Their mission is reported to be: “to promote financial awareness and financial literacy in the University; provide free one-on-one advising; network with campus, professional and community resources; and improve university student retention and recruitment.” Financial wellness is such an important issue in our current world.

The library can also help you in your search for more information about getting through these trying times. On our Current Display magazine shelves on the first floor, we have the newest issue on many publications that can help you: Barron’s, Business Week, Consumer Reports, Economist, Forbes, Fortune, Kiplinger’s, Money, and more. You can find back issues of these magazines in the 3rd floor Periodicals area. Also the library has numerous electronic databases for quickly finding even more information. MasterFILE Premier is a good choice for popular journals, and Academic Search Complete would work well for academic journals.

Finally, the book collection can be helpful for finding more financial information. Check our catalog. Using the subject heading “finance, personal,” I was led to 125 titles including Suze Orman’s 9 Steps to Financial Freedom, Ernst & Young’s Personal Financial Planning Guide, Michael Finney’s Consumer Confidential : the Money-Saving Secrets They Don’t Want You To Know, Start Late, Finish Rich : a No-Fail Plan For Achieving Financial Freedom At Any Age by David Bach If you’ve found a highly recommended book that the library doesn’t have, you can “Suggest a Book For Our Collection” (under Find Books), or Interlibrary Loan it to read.
