ACLU: Education
2. CEO: Disparate Impact,
Affirmative Action, and Other Nonsense
|
Explains that more than 50
years have passed since the Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education outlawed segregation
in public schools. Claims that students of color still struggle in inadequate schools and
describes the rights of individuals to education, existing discrimination, and lawsuits related
to racial discrimination in American schools.
Links to an update by the president
of the Center for Equal Opportunity. He asserts that university admissions criteria should not
be based on race, explains "disparate impact," and claims that failing public schools and being
born out of wedlock or more to blame than racial segregation, and that affirmative action is
not the answer to problems in the education systems in the United States.
