Scope and Content

This collection consists of a series of interviews compiled by people and family members documenting their ancestors' journeys from their homelands to the United States and eventually Southeast Idaho. These people are Mormon immigrants looking for a better life.

The broad areas covered in these histories are religion, houses, home life, clothing, games, school, punishments, vacations and food. The collection is focused on individual families and family member histories. There is a large part of the collection that focuses on the Rockland area, resulting in a book "Rockland Valley 1879-1979: the first one hundred years" compiled and edited by the Rockland Centennial Book Committee (housed in ISU Special Collections #F753.R6 R6). Several other areas include St. Charles, Pocatello and surrounding area, as well as Teton Valley, Idaho Falls and Jefferson County.

The collection consists of 7 manuscript boxes and houses 264 individual folders with a date range of 1642-1984.

This was a project of Dr. Susan H. Swetnam, Professor of English and Philosophy at Idaho State University, Pocatello, Idaho. The material was never published.
