Henry H. Fletcher, 77, 135 Trail Creek Road, died Wednesday afternoon (November 12) at a local hospital.
He was born August 9, 1909 in Midvale, to William and Eva Estella Draper Fletcher. He attended schools in Payette, Caldwell and Nampa. He attended the University of Oregon at Eugene in 1929 and attended the College of Idaho at Caldwell from 1930-1931.
He was a radio operator/announcer for KFXD in Jerome from 1927-1928; instructor for a radio class at Boise High School, 1929-1930; radio operator for KORE, Eugene, Oregon, and KIDO at Boise, 1928-1930; radio operator/announcer for KFXD at Nampa, 1930-1931; and radio operator/announcer and salesman for KTFI Twin Falls, 1931-1936.
He was also vice president and general manager of KSEI Radio, Pocatello, 1936-1953; president and general manager of KSEI Radio, 1953-1957; and owner/president and general manager of KSEI Radio from 1957-1973.
In 1973, at the time of the sale of KSEI Radio, he had completed 50 years in the broadcasting business.
He married Ruthe A. Fletcher on August 20, 1934 in Jerome. She preceded him in death on October 2, 1983.
Mr. Fletcher served as president of the Rotary Club of Pocatello from 1952-1955 and served as secretary since 1975, served as president of the Pocatello Chamber of Commerce, president of the Idaho State Broadcasters Association, chairman of the Bannock County chapter of the American Red Cross, and president of the Idaho State Civic Symphony Association.
Since 1955, he had been involved in the Education where he served as director for a three-year term and then as secretary-treasurer for a three-year term. He served on the Freedom of Information Committee, National Association of Broadcasters, for three one-year terms.
He had served as chairman of the Electronics Advisory Committee, Idaho State University Vo-Tech; as vice president, secretary and member of the Pocatello Safety Council; in the United Campaign as division chairman and worker; and with the Emergency Broadcasting System as chairman.
Mr. Fletcher was a public information officer for the Civil Defense, served as a member and treasurer for the Mayor's Committee on Employment of Physically Handicapped and Older Workers, and was a member of the Pocatello Chiefs, Public Relations Division of the Pocatello Chamber of Commerce.
He served two terms as president of the Idaho State Broadcasters Association and had been a board member many times; he also was awarded a life membership in that organization. He served as chairman of the board of KSEI Radio from 1973-1983, was a member of the Rocky Mountain Broadcasters Association where he served on the board for more than four years and was executive director of that organization form 1975-1984.
He had served as chairman of the Pocatello Chamber of Commerce Economic and Education Committee from 1975-1977. He had been a radio amateur operator since 1923.
Since 1973, he had maintained a private office where he, his wife until her death, and Olive Greene, all of whom retired at the same time, have continued doing public service work on a non -compensated basis.
He was a member of the Pocatello Scottish Rite Bodies.
He enjoyed operating his Ham radio, photography and his electronic organ.
