Dr. Carl W. McIntosh - Biographical Sketch

Carl W. McIntosh was born December 1, 1914 in Redlands, California. He attended Redlands Public Schools. At University of Redlands he received his B.A. He also attended the University of Iowa for his Masters and Ph.D. He attended the University of Redlands for his LL.D.
Dr. McIntosh was a member of Pi Kappa Delta, Delta Sigma Phi, Sigma Tau Delta, Sigma XI. He was also a member of A.A.U.P.
Dr. McIntosh was in high demand as a speaker by educational and other groups. His ability in debate and public speaking dates back to his undergraduate days at the University of Redlands.
Dr. McIntosh also served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946.
Dr. McIntosh married Mary Carroll Donnelly on August 22, 1939. They had one daughter. They were later divorced.
Dr. Carl McIntosh was chosen to head Idaho State College (ISC) by the State Board of Education in November, 1946, from a large field of Idaho and out-of-state candidates.
Under his leadership, ISC expanded in enrollment, faculty and physical plant. The college ceased being the Southern Branch of the University of Idaho in March, 1947. Only 21 months later, and under the leadership of Dr. Carl McIntosh, ISC received accreditation that changed it from a two-year to a four-year degree granting institution.
Carl McIntosh was the president of ISC from 1946-1959.
He was the president of California State University of Long Branch from 1959-1969. He then moved to Montana and was the president of Montana State University for 1970-1977.
As of June, 2007 Dr. McIntosh still lives in Bozeman, Montana.
