The Alameda Ladies Aid was founded in 1924 as the Alameda Community Ladies Aid, by a group of Christian women for the support of religious training for young people. The organization's first President was Mrs. E. A. Bradfield. The organization met every second and fourth Wednesday in various members' homes and in community centers, such as the Senior Center or the YWCA.
The meetings of the Alameda Ladies Aid consisted primarily of Christian devotional services, singing, luncheons, recitations of poems, essays with a religious or patriotic theme and guest speakers who spoke on various subjects of general interest. The membership of the Ladies Aid was open to all women regardless of their church affiliation.
In later years, the Alameda Ladies Aid was involved in community service projects, such as making infant quilts and caring for the elderly.
