Dr. Glenn E. Tyler Papers - Table of Contents
MC049
Scope and Content
This collection contains 45 records or manuscript boxes containing Glenn E. Tyler's personal material. There are 8 boxes of personal correspondence, some written in German. Some items of interest include correspondence from the 1940's when Dr. Tyler served in the Army.
Except for 3 boxes containing financial material, the rest of the collection, Dr. Tyler used for teaching. There are multiple boxes of notes and notebooks. Most of this material is undated. There are several boxes of classroom material dedicated to his History classes. Also included in the collection are several boxes of index cards which have handwritten notes on them. Some are alphabetized but several of these boxes contain loose cards. There are two boxes of research material as well.
If you count the 15,000 to 20,000 books that Dr. Tyler donated to the Eli M. Oboler Library, this collection is vast. One of the volumes donated is the oldest book in the library, "Sermons of Master John Calvin upon the Book of Job from 1584" (call number BS 1415 C313 1584). This book can be viewed in the Rare Books Room in Special Collections in the basement of the library.
The Glenn Tyler endowed fund allows the library to continue to purchase books in the areas of history and philosophy of science and medicine for the library collections.
Note: Idaho State University honored Dr. Tyler after his death by naming the History Departments Seminar Room in his honor, creating a plaque for the purpose with funds from a former student. The plaque is still visible in the ISU office.
