Dr. Dorothy Deane Faris 78, died in Pocatello in early April after an extended illness. Born February 25, 1897, at Boise, she spent her early life there, graduating from high school in that city. She graduated from Wellesley College in Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Science degree and received a teaching fellowship at Mount Holyoke College, where she earned a Master's degree.

After teaching in New York and at Boise, she joined the staff of the University of Idaho Southern Branch in 1927 as a member of the Bacteriology Department. She later received a degree in Pharmacy from ISU, then enlisted in the Women's Army Corps in World War II. Returning to Pocatello, she continued her teaching career. She took time out in 1955 to receive a doctorate from the University of Colorado, then returned to Idaho State as chairman of the Microbiology Department until her retirement in 1966.
