Scope and Content
This collection focuses on H. Leigh Gittins' family and his work. Leigh Gittins was the principal of McCammon's Elementary and Junior High Schools. He was also an author and wrote Pocatello Portrait, Gittins Family History, Boxcar Pocatello and Idaho's Gold Road. His work in the community is also featured in this collection.
The collection contains research material for several of his books as well as correspondence (family and business), scrapbooks, publications, and some memorabilia and photographs. Since Mr. Gittins traveled extensively researching his works, the collection also contains multiple maps and guides.
The photographs focus is on family and regional history. Most of the photographs are undated and unidentified.
The collection also contains several journals that depict life on the farm and its hardships.
Some journals are not dated, however, the majority cover a ten year period from 1921 to 1931.
Some of the publications on local history have remained with the collection while others have been transferred to the main collection and rare books room.
